Message from the Director

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata is an Institution of National Importance under Ministry of Human Resource Development and one of the oldest addition to the hallowed IISER System that has proven its worth in last 10+ years. The alumni of IISER are internationally known for their caliber and contribution. Since its inception in 2006, IISER- Kolkata like its young as well as established peers- has pursued excellence with steadfast determination. Today IISER has thrived to a new height and its overall performance towards achieving academic excellence has been rewarded with the recognition of the best IISER in the country on the basis of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) with overall ranking at 25.

In this institute the students are admitted in an integrated BS-MS degree course which involves two years of exposure to all the science disciplines, two years of study in a "major" discipline and finally one year of research. We impart undergraduate teaching in a research environment and involve the undergraduate students in research, so that they can adequately gear to a career in R&D. In addition, we have the PhD Programme and the Integrated MS-PhD Programme which are specifically focused on research.
The IISERs have the mandate to produce human resource specifically trained to handle the research and development demand of the country. This highly trained manpower is meant to cater to the R&D needs of the government sector (the research laboratories and educational institutions) as well as of industry.
I cordially invite all companies to actively consider our students for campus recruitment.

With Best Wishes,
Prof. Sourav Pal,
Director
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata
