    Observatory was inaugated by Prof. Vinod Kumar Gaur, Former secretary to the government of india, Department of Ocean Development, Honory emiritius scientist, CMMACS, Banglore in the presence of former director of IISER Kolkata Prof. Sushanta Datta Gupta.

    Computational Seismology

    Computational Seismology Lab faculty, postdocs, students, and Phds are involved in a variety of lab endeavors. These activities include regular division courses, seminars and field trips.

About Us

The IISER Kolkata Seismological Observatory has been setup as a research facility for Solid Earth Studies within the Department of Earth Sciences. The observatory has two major components:
(i) Permanent broadband 3-component seismograph station
(ii) Computational Seismology Laboratory

The facility was inagaurated on 18 November 2010 and is located within the IISER Kolkata main campus in Mohanpur. In addition to the permanent observatory, we operate temporary seismograph networks in the Himalaya and the Bengal Basin for seismotectonic studies.
