Shivam Garg
Integrated BSMS dual degree, Department of Physical Sciences, IISER Kolkata, India

I am a BSMS undergraduate from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata, India. I am looking for an opportunity to rub shoulders with great stalwarts of science, so that I can also follow their footprints and ultimately contribute to the welfare of science.
During the past few years I have developed an interest in astronomy and astrophysics, as I got a few opportunities to work on some training assignments related to various topics such as Dark matter, Dark Energy, Gravitational waves, Stellar spectrum, Rainbow formation, Pulsar observations at institutions of repute like IIT-Kanpur, Delhi University, NCRA Pune, IISER Mohali, Indian Institute of Astrophysics - Bangalore, Radio Astronomy Centre (Ooty).

Master's Thesis
I pursued my master's thesis titled "Quantum Field Theory in Curved Spacetime and Anomalies" under the supervision of Dr. Sunandan Gangopadhyay (Dept. of Physical Sciences, IISER Kolkata). Hawking radiation and Unruh effect are two well known examples of the effect of quantum fields in curved spacetime. Anomalies play an important role in quantum field theory. It has been shown that anomalies can be used to find Hawking temperature. In this Master's thesis, we reviewed Quantum Field Theory in Curved Spacetime (including Unruh and Hawking effects) and then studied the application of gravitational anomalies for deriving Hawking radiation in Schwarzschild spacetime.
