I am a 5th year BS-MS dual degree student at Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Kolkata, India . I am pursuing a master's in physics. Presently, I am working on my thesis project, which involves computational simulations related to neutron stars. When I am not doing physics or coding, you'll probably find me trekking in the Himalayas, doing long-distance runs, or invested in social initiatives.

Research Interest

I am mainly interested in computational astrophysics. Over the past two years, my interest has narrowed down to gravitational physics including the study of gravitational waves, black hole mergers, neutron stars and other compact objects.

Research Experience

Master Thesis Project

July 2020 - Present

IISER Kolkata

Presently, as the initial part of the project, I am working on ultracompact neutron stars by simulating Tolman–Oppenheimer–Volkoff equation in python for various equation of states. Through the process I am also learning to work on clusters, parallelization, mastering Linux command-line system and learning various code optimisation techniques.

I am studying about nonlinearities in the merger phase of the binary black holes.

Summer Research Project

May 2020 - September 2020

University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth

The project involves working on a surrogate model that predicts the gravitational wave signals for large mass-ratio black hole binaries. I am contributing to this model by adding features which calculate remnant mass and kick. These functionalities will soon be added to the open source code. I recently gave a talk on my work at UMassD's physics colloquia.

I learnt about the null geodesics and simulated the same in python for Schwarzschild metric. I also learnt about backward ray-tracing methods which are similar to what is used in the Event Horizon Telescope.

Study of shock waves in magneto-hydro-dynamical(MHD) framework. I learn about shock waves and simulated Rankine-Hugoniot relations in python. I also prepared a final report of my work.
