About me

ACADEMIC PATH

Before the start of my undergraduate course in Earth Science, I was quite unaware of the whole ideological possibilities in it. Luckily I got in touch with the environment at IISERK seismological Observatory where I could carefully observe what is there that drives research. My first experience at EGU general assembly 2019 escalated my fascination many times towards this field.

The philosophy which researchers use to follow their interests unpuzzled me and made me a big admirer of itself. I have always been a keen computational geek, so I chose the computational seismology laboratory to experience the stuff there. It interests me to apply the routine coding techniques to the real problems in seismology.

3-DIMENSIONAL SEISMIC WAVE ATTENUATION TOMOGRAPHY OF THE MAUPASACQ REGION IN THE PYRENEAN RANGE

ICM, Barcelona, Spain
MAY 2019 - PRESENT

In the framework of the MAUPASACQ project, A dense seismic network of 440 three-component stations was deployed throughout the Mauleon Basin, in the northern foothills of the Pyrenees, SW France. I am evaluating the seismic wave attenuation in that region under the supervision of Dr. Arantza Ugalde and Dr. Caeser R. Ranero. The key steps for the procedure include:

  • Evaluating amplitude spectra using multitaper approach.
  • Fitting the spectra using Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm.
  • Computing tomography using SIMUL2000 program.

P and S WAVE ATTENUATION IN JAMMU AND KASHMIR HIMALAYAN REGION

IISER Kolkata, India
JANUARY 2019 - PRESENT

Jammu and Kashmir region (NW Himalaya) owes its existence to collision hence the occurrence of earthquake events is part of the tectonic evolution of the Himalaya and shall continue in the future which itself evokes high hazard vulnerability. As my master's project with Prof. Supriyo Mitra, I am estimating P and S wave attenuation tomography of that region using following approach:

  • Spectra estimation and fitting using least square estimation.
  • Using modified back-projection algorithm (Xie and Mitchell, 1990) to compute tomography.

EARTHQUAKE RAY PATH CLUSTERING USING MACHINE LEARNING ALGORITHM

IISER Kolkata, India
MAY 2018 - JULY 2018

The clustering is done to setup data for group velocity tomographic inversion. The cluster will be treated as a single measurement, where the group velocity of the path will be the group velocity of mean of cluster the error will be the standard error in the cluster. Clustering is done using the following derived technique.

  • Sequential grouping of lines based on slope.
  • Within each cluster from step 1, Centers of lines are clustered into smaller groups using DBSCAN algorithm.
  • Within each group from step 2, Lines are grouped within defined threshold.

2D GRAVITY COMPUTATION AND MODELING OF SEDIMENTARY BASIN USING PYTHON PROGRAM WITH APPLICATION TO THE GODAVARI BASIN

University of Hyderabad, India
MAY 2017 - JULY 2017

Gravity anomalies by complicated geological shapes are always useful in understanding the crustal structure. For forward problem in gravity, method developed by Talwani et al. (1959) is used while for the inverse problem, successive misfit minimization of bouger anomaly is done. The data is used to model the Godavari Basin.

FIELD WORK IN GALUDIH AND GHAATSHILA REGION OF SINGBHUM CRATON

IISER Kolkata
MAY 2018 - JULY 2018

Structural mapping of deformations associated in the Galudih region is done also mineralogy is studied in depth with the geologic history.

WORK PHENOMENON IN CARBON NANOTUBES

MNIT Jaipur, India
MAY 2016 - JUNE 2016

Learnt geological use of carbon nanotubes in exploration also the project experimental techniques for functionalization of MWCNT.

There is no secret to success

It is the result of preparation, Hard work, and learning from the failure.

Technical Skills

I'M GOOD AT

Programming Languages

For my data processing I often use Python, C, JAVA, MATLAB, Bash, SAC, FORTRAN, JavaScript, XML, HTML. Most of my processing is in Fortran and Python with dubious preferences.
